Golems and Witches – GOWIWI Attacks

It’s great to see more of the clan using golems and witches for war attacks so I thought I would put a little guide together about how to use them best.

So first off, I am not the best golem and witch user in the world, I have just used them in more attacks than most of you.  I have made lots of mistakes with them and want to share with you what I have learnt.

Golem and Witches cost a lot of Dark Elixir so I should really look after them shouldn’t I?  No, you are going to send the golems in to get shot at by everything the base has to offer.  Trust them, they have a lot of health and are designed to go after those weapons.

My witches are easily killed so i should make sure a lot of the weapons are destroyed before releasing them right?  No, the witch has to be on the map to spawn the skeletons and it doesn’t spawn all of them in one turn.  She summons them in two or more waves so dropping her soon allows this to happen sooner.

Golems are great at soaking up huge damage BUT they can’t really dish it out.  So they need help from skeletons and wizards to take down the weapons, while they are soaking up the damage.  They also struggle to get through walls so take some wall breakers with you, enough to get through at least the first 2 layers of walls.

When you use golems it is best to deploy them split apart.  The weapons will start firing towards the golems so by spreading them a bit you engage more weapons, making it easier for your other troops and wall breakers to get into the base.  Don’t deploy wall breakers by golems as they usually get wiped out by the incoming mortar shots.

Witches can be great at taking out the CC troops.  Lure the troops towards the corner then drop the witches before they get there.  The skeletons will spawn and run towards the oncoming CC troops taking the damage they will deal.  An archer then a wizard or two will then destroy most of the troops while the witches are still safe at the back.

Golems are better giants so you don’t need to take any giants with you, unless you want to use a few to lure CC troops.  Golems aren’t affected by spring traps and bombs don’t hurt them much.

So how does the attack go?  A few troops to drag the CC troops towards the corner and then drop 2 witches.  As the skeletons get to the CC troops drop 2 wizards on either side to destroy the troops.  Then drop your 2-3 golems on the same side/ corner as your witches are so they are not wasted.  As the golems reach the walls release some wall breakers in groups of two, so if the mortar shots do get them its only two that you are losing.  As the WBs are running in now drop the rest of your witches and most of the wizards you have.  Now is the time to get your King into the battle also, you want him with the golems chopping his way towards the Townhall.  As everything starts to bunch up now is the best time to use your first rage spell.

That is how all starts “should” go, from here it is chaos!  There are a huge amount of troops all flashing and fighting but how you do the next bits are up to you.  I use 2 rage, 2 freeze and 1 jump spell.  1 rage for first group up and 1 rage for the troops and heros at the town hall, 2 freeze to try and get as much of the Xbows and Inferno towers as I can, 1 jump spell to get the troops over the last wall and into the town hall area.  Heal can be substituted for freeze for lower levels but remember that it doesn’t heal against Inferno fire.  I deploy the Archer Queen a bit delayed so she can help clean up, if you leave it too late she will run around the base so make sure there is a building for her to aim for.  Keep a few archers to pick off a few buildings around the edge if you are going to struggle to get the 50% star.

So when should you use your Hero powers?  Not right at the start, use the power to manage the health and take down key structures.  The King has quite a big heal and spawns barbs and rage for him and barbs.  Use it if his health is low OR when he is next to the Townhall, the King will destroy a TH in a few seconds when raged.  The Queen power should again be used for health or to take out key weapons or disengage something like an inferno tower while she is invisible.

This strategy is very consistent against high level bases but can struggle to get a 3 star.  You are aiming for the Townhall star and then the 50% star, the third is a bonus that can sometimes happen.  If you have level 4+ hogs and are attacking a TH 8 you would be better off using those and being careful of bombs.  This attack is best against TH 9 and TH 10.

So army composition will differ depending on your camp size.  For GOWIWI Golem, Witch, Wizard I like some thing like 2 Golem 6 Witch 10+ Wizards 10 Wall breakers and some archers and giants to get CC troops.  I like archers and wizards in my CC although a Pekka might work also.

Next time I will expand the GOWIPE Golem Wizard Pekka attack.  Good luck in the War.
